These volcanic structures are located in the Central Plateau of Flores Island and represent explosion craters known as maars. They are linked with hydro-magmatic eruptions in which the rising magma comes into contact with water, resulting in explosive activity and the creation of these depressions. Surrounding Caldeira Branca, there is a ring of tuffs, and at the bottom of the craters, you can find lagoons, with the exception of Caldeira Seca.
