The island has a rich geological heritage of high scientific, educational, and tourist interest. Among the various phenomena and volcanic landscapes on the island, the following stand out: the calderas and lagoons, Fajã Grande and Fajãzinha, Monchique Islet and Rocha dos Bordões.
